We already know the story of the Sacred Heart's appearance to Saint Margaret; Jesus Christ appears to a nun and shows her His heart. He says, “This is the Heart that loves people very much; but in return for this love, it receives contempt and ingratitude from many .” And the Lord continues, “At least you, try to mend my heart .” Before moving on to the benefits of being devoted to the Heart of Jesus, I want to answer four questions; two of which are taken from the sermon of a famous author:
1. What are we celebrating today?
“We are not celebrating the heart muscle of Jesus, but we are also celebrating God’s divine love for us. God wanted to love us, but He took on flesh so that we could understand His love, and He loved us with a human heart, but with an eternal love. That is what we celebrate today; the eternal love of God dwelling in the human heart” (Therefore, the flames of love cannot be contained in that heart).
2. So why should we celebrate this mystery?
“Because we humans have difficulty understanding God’s love. When we think of God, we think of an infinite, eternal, perfect, and utterly happy Being. Therefore, we, bearing the marks of sin and the limitations of our human condition, may be inclined to think that God is detached from our suffering, as if He were indifferent to our pain.”
“But the Lord, in His infinite mercy, came toward us, became human, and desired to love us with a human heart so that we would never again doubt His love. Thus, in Jesus, God’s invisible and eternal love became visible.”
“When we witness this love, a feeling of gratitude arises within us. After all, we know that true love manifests itself through sacrifice .” Christ gave his life for us. That is why: (…) “We should wholeheartedly desire to comfort the Heart of Jesus. From our own experience, we know how comforting it is to find someone who suffers with us and takes on some of our suffering. Now, God, who does not and cannot suffer within himself, desired to make himself defenseless in Christ and take on the sufferings of humanity; he came to us, took on our sufferings, and saved us with his love.”
3. What are the benefits of being devoted to the Sacred Heart?
I will summarize the 12 promises in three points:
Those who are lukewarm will become enthusiastic. A remedy for lukewarmness (sadness and lack of motivation in spiritual activities), a great spiritual ailment of all Christians .
Those who are eager will achieve great perfection. Everyone who practices this devotion with enthusiasm will become a saint. That is, WE WILL BECOME SAINTS. We will unite with God, this is what we came into the world for , and by doing so we will become saints.
“I promise that I will give the grace of salvation to everyone who receives communion on the first nine Fridays of the month in a row.” Jesus guarantees us the grace of salvation. Do you want to be saved? Confess your sins, receive communion on the first nine Fridays of the month in a row, and have the power of Jesus’ Sacred Heart to avoid offending God and to die as His friend.
4. What does this worship involve?
Love and Atonement. Love for Christ: doing everything for Him; lessons, work, everything in the ordinary life of every person. Atonement for the sins of all people, especially sins against the Eucharist: making sacrifices; giving up a sweet treat I love, whether cold or hot, small sacrifices, what matters is that they are done with the intention of atoning the Heart . Worshiping the Bread and Wine Mass provides great atonement.
"At least you" In this "you," we are represented. With love and devotion to the Heart of Jesus, we possess all the remedies necessary for our salvation: ecstasy, holiness, and deliverance. Let us ask the Blessed Mary for grace so that we may become true friends of Jesus.
