Sermon – The Son of Man Has Authority to Forgive Sins – 2 July 2026

What is the thing that harms people the most?

What is true evil? We can say it's diseases. These only harm the body.

Poverty, suffering, abandonment? These things only harm the body.

Death? It only harms the body, it ends physical life, but we know that we have an immortal soul…

The thing that harms a person the most, true evil, is sin. Because sin may harm the body, but above all it harms the soul, dragging it to hell (depending on whether it is a mortal sin and whether we die in sin) .

Knowing this, we see that Jesus saves us from this terrible evil, namely sin. Jesus can forgive sins.

How does he do this? By sacrificing his life for us on the cross. Therefore, he is also God.

Jesus performs two miracles to demonstrate that he can forgive sin .

First: He reads the thoughts of Jews who think, "This man is blaspheming."

Secondly: With a single word, he can bring a paralyzed man back to his feet:

Get up, pack up your mattress and go home!

Let us ask Mary for the grace to trust in the mercy of Jesus , who came to save us from sin .
