Today's Bible text teaches us the importance of persistence in prayer and faith in Jesus.
When the blind beggar heard that Jesus had passed by, he began to cry out, “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!” He cried out because he knew and believed that Jesus could heal him.
The Bible says: “Some rebuked him to be quiet, but he shouted all the louder.”
This is the great teaching of today's Bible: no matter what difficulties we face, even if we sin, what matters is that we do not stop praying to God and asking Him for help.
“Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me.”
Even if God doesn't seem to be listening to us, we must persist, we must shout louder! We must pray more intensely.
I don't think any of us here believe that Jesus cannot heal you or rescue you from that grave sin or coldness of faith. Of course, we believe that Jesus is all-powerful!
What we lack is something that Bartimeos lacks: the generosity of persistence in prayer.
An interesting detail is that Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” as if he didn’t know what the blind man wanted. In this, the Lord shows us how much He loves us to be persistent in our prayers, to pray, and to speak with Him.
Let us ask for the grace to have a fighting spirit in our prayers , so that despite distractions and difficulties, we may continue to pray until Jesus grants us what we ask.
