Sermon – Mary Chose the Better Part (Luke 10:38-42) – October 6, 2026

God wants to save us; but He wants us to help Him save not only us, but also other souls.

This is our duty and our call: to save ourselves with the help of God and to help others to be saved as well.

What did we do to deserve this call? Nothing. This is thanks to the goodness of God, who chose us even before we were born.

Therefore, Saint Paul says:

God, who chose me and called me with His grace while I was still in my mother's womb...

“While in my mother’s womb”; that is, before I was born into this world. And “by her grace”; that is, through her goodness.

So what should we do?

We must do what is truly important: to love and serve God directly , as Mary did. And to love and serve God in our sisters , as Martha did.

Both must be done: loving God directly and loving God in our brothers and sisters.

In today's Bible, Jesus reminds us of this:

Mary chose what was good, and that will not be taken away from her.

Let us ask for this favor from the Blessed Virgin Mary.
