Sermon – Let Us First Examine Our Own Deficiencies (Luke 6:39-42) – September 11, 2026

In today's Bible, Jesus teaches us something very important: we should look at our own lives before looking at the lives of others.
Jesus says, “You see the speck in your brother’s eye, but why do you not notice the beam in your own eye?”
Sometimes we are very quick to spot the mistakes of others. We immediately notice who did what, who said what, and where they made a mistake.
Then we can start talking about others, criticizing them, and even gossiping.
But Jesus is calling us to something else today: that we first examine ourselves.
What do I need to change in my life? What flaws should I correct? What sins should I turn away from? What can I do to become a better and holier person, as Jesus intended?
Improving the lives of others is not our primary duty. Our primary duty is to sanctify our own lives.
Instead of looking for faults in others, we should work on our own flaws.
This doesn't mean we should never help our brother or sister. Of course, we should help each other with love.
But before we do that, we should look into our own hearts and try to fix our own lives.
Therefore, instead of talking about other people's lives and gossiping, let's pray for them. Instead of judging others, let's try to see our own shortcomings.
Today, let us ask the Virgin Mary for the grace to humbly recognize our imperfections so that we may become better people.
